Course: “Business Application Development for Blackberry Devices”

Goal
To develop in the student a clear understanding of the main functionality available on modern Blackberry devices, the way in
which applications are structured on them and some practical considerations to keep in mind when doing professional work. To this
end, the student will develop a small business app under the instructor guidance.

- Concepts and structure of a native Blackberry application
- The User Interface and its main elements
- Interacting with the user: Menus and Commands
- Permanent data storage with the Blackberry API
- Communicating with HTTP servers
- Calling remote Web Services
- XML processing
- Remote communication using SMS, Email and PIN messages
- Reading the device's GPS info
- Integration with the OS applications: Address book & Phone
Audience
Java programmers interested in creating mobile products; a basic knowledge of the language is recommended.

Schedule: Tue & Wed, 10 sessions of 1.5 hours each, from 17:00 to 18:30 hrs. CST
Location: Anywhere you like, as long as it has broadband. This course will be given online.

Notes
- The webinar consists of a thorough exposition of the main concepts involved in developing business oriented
applications for Blackberry devices; you'll see the IDE and code on your screen, along with the instructor's voice explaining
the relevant concepts.
- During the training sessions some time will be assigned for each student to try and duplicate the code demosntrated
by the instructor.
- Links to download the software for Blackberry development will be sent to each of the students a few days before
beginning the webinar. All the needed tools are freely available to the public.
- Both PC and Mac computers can connect to the training sessions, however, the development tools are only available for Windows.
- A PDF course certificate will be emailed to each student after the webinar´s end.
- The date and time of the training sessions can be changed on request as long as the whole class agrees to it.
- The minimum number of participants needed to launch the webinar is five; if at the proposed date, there are less students enrolled, the
course will be postponed up to 2 ocassions. If still there aren´t at least five participants, the course might be cancelled, in which
case, those students who had already paid would be refunded.
- If after you´re enrollment, you find you cannot attend the webinar for whatever reason, you´ll still be able to review
the recordings and you´ll be allowed to attend the next webinar available at no additional cost, if you so choose.
